taking a break

I decided that I needed a break from everything and headed to the human town to see what was going on. "Man, what a day." I find a small simple cafe and order myself a cup of tea.

"U-um, what kind of tea?" I say to the customer. I fidget with my shirt and look down at the floor.

"Whatever you have is fine." I shrug and smile at the waitress. "I just want to relax."

I repeat the word "relax" in my head until my heart settles. "It's just a person, it's just a person," I mumble as I get tea for the customer, "he's not gonna bite, says mother. They don't bite, she said." I continue to mumble until I hand him the tea. "T-two fifty, please." I look to the side to avoid eye contact. "Damn it," I think to myself.

"Thank you." I smile softly at her as I sip my tea a little. "You seem stressed, do you want to talk about it?"

"Stressed?" I finally make eye contact. "What makes you think I'm stressed?" My voice got louder than I wanted it to. "I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to shout." I blush and look back down at the ground. "Damn, I hate myself so much," I thought out loud in a hushed tone.

"You just need to calk down." I smile softly as her again and offer her a seat. "If your not to busy then you can sit and talk about your day."

I stared at the stranger in disbelief. Glancing at the clock, I figured my break could come a few minutes early and take a seat across him. "Thank you. This morning... ," I hesitated. How can I just tell these things to a stranger? My stomach flipped as I spoke, "M-my mother came home drunk this morning and.... No, never mind. My morning was good." I gave my most convincing smile. "How was your morning?" I wanted to stop talking about myself.

Deciding to not pressure the poor girl, I smiled and ignored what she said. "Thats good to hear. My day was alright, having to work around the food district and all." I shrug as I sip my tea.

I brushed a strand of hair out of my eye, "what do you do in the food district?" I found myself focusing at the kind person in front of me. It was nice to talk to someone for a change, I usually keep my distance to avoid trouble. "I seriously need to keep my emotions under control," I thought to myself as I recalled my last friend ship and how it ended horrible because of my habit of being annoying.

"I usually just get ingredients form them and what not." I lean back in my chair as I finish my tea. "I see you work here. Its a nice place."

"Yeah, the pay is good, I suppose. I just started a couple weeks ago," I laughed, "still not quite comfortable, though. Not too many employees so I get a lot of hours in." I checked the clock. Wow, a whole five minutes of talking to a stranger! I gave myself a mental gold star. "Do you have a job?"

"I just do odd jobs really." I look at the time, wondering if the girl should get back to work. "By the way, my name is Ember."

"Oh, Ember. That's a nice name. My name's Sena." I hold out my hand to shake and take a glance at the clock. Two more minutes.

"Its nice to meet you as well." I smile and stretch a little. "How much longer do you think you have left to talk?"

I put my hand down, "a couple of minutes. You probably have something to do so, I'll get out of your hair." I stand and go back around the counter. "It was nice talking to you, Ember." I disappear behind the doors to the storage room and smile to myself. "Did I just make a friend?" I say out loud to no one in particular.

"It was nice to meet you as well." I hum softly to myself as I begin to leave.
